First major service?

Postby AdventureMoto » Thu Sep 10, 2015 10:04 pm

I guess the bike is too new to have a first year service yet but has anyone had their first major 6000 miles or 10000 km service done? Interested to know the cost and any issues. Thanks

Yes, I had the 6000 mile service on Aug 1st. at Skellerns in Cheltenham

Cost was 150 + VAT = £180 inc 2.5 hours labour

No problems - it went better after the service as the throttle bodies are synchronised

Whilst in Fleetwood, called into "Raceways" asked about 12mth/6000 mile service ..... £195 & NO synchronisation needed ?? I WILL be trying elsewhere when the time comes, are Yamaha services more than Honda [£160 for my NC750X] & HAVE I dropped one purchasing my first Yamaha since 1997 !

In my head I've got a figure of £200 being the max. Maybe I'm confusing it with a car servicing. My last 12 month service (just under 4000 miles) cost £150 or something like that. Next one due in August so there's time to save up for it.

I've done the 6K & 12K service myself, 6K is just oil & filter and checks and lube and cleaning of bits and bobs. 12K is oil & filter, spark plugs, throttle body sync and a bit more in depth than the 6K. But i always over service my bikes, so i did a lot more than what was recommended by Yamaha.

In total it's cost me £130 for both, this is using original Yamaha parts to keep the warranty going.

I got the first 600 mile service thrown in for free when i bought the bike.

To keep the warranty don't you have to use a VAT registered garage as well as using Yamaha parts?
