Screen adjustment screw problem

Postby SkyRider » Fri Sep 30, 2016 9:53 pm

Hi everyone

I'm having issues with the left hand screen adjusting screw. It keeps coming undone leaving the screen rattle a lot while riding. After 50 miles of riding one of the screws become very lose so needs to tighten up

Hi there,

I had the same issue with the right hand one. Used to buzz at certain revs. It wont fall out due to the little circlip on the end of the bolt.

I bought a pack of plastic washers from Halfords, took the bolt out and fitted the washer. Now tightens up snugly.

I'll take a pic later if I can remember.

Cheers.

My left one does this, but after even just nipping into town.

It's reallyyyy annoying.

Tried to claim it under warranty but they wouldn't do anything about it.

That's odd, sounds like most Tracer's have this issue but I've not experienced it yet. Having said that I never adjust the screen so maybe the screws haven't "loosened up" so to speak

Iam thinking that might be ?? the problem, once adjusted...leave in that position? It rather defeats the object of it being adjustable in the first place,Mr Yamaha !! :o

I've kind of fixed the issue and here's how.

I used thin rubber hair band to wrap around the thread a few times after the nut was tightened. Then stretch the band to go round the thumb screw to keep it in position.

So far so good! I mentioned this to the dealer during last service but nothing was done. Now the rubber friction is stopping the screw from coming loose.

I was back at the dealer yesterday to "fix" the never had this before ! loose screen adjusters & loose speedo nacelle/binnacle...BOTH NO improvement, probably have to sort myself...also intend to fit wider footrests.on the left hand side[n/s] the pin is peinned over so the head needs grinding off to be able to remove....the other side is the "normal" pin, washer, split pin arrangement...how very strange Mr Yamaha..WHY ?

I removed the circlip then added/tightened a 10mm (spanner size) nut on to both adjusters, they've never come loose again ;) If you need to constantly need to adjust your screen it'll mean you have to carry a 10mm spanner with you tho, luckily I leave mine alone :D
