Re: Chain Tension

Well 845 thanks for that. Like you the chain whine even with the chain at max slop of 15mm (as specified by Yamaha) was awful. I couldn't live with the noise. I also used a bit of common sense and slackened the chain off to about 1" to 1.5" when on the centre stand and now, guess what, no ...

Re: Recommendations for rear hugger?

The hugger I bought seems to be a good compromise. It's a Skidmarx one that replaces the stupid thing fitted as standard and is integral with a moulded in chainguard. The good thing about it is that it covers the gap where road dirt comes forward off the tyre straight on to the spring and shock. It ...

Chain Tension

This topic seems to have been done to death without any definitive answer. The manual says 5 to 15mm when the bike is on the stand. It warns of dire consequences if this figure is not adhered to. Well I have tried the chain at this measurement and I have to say even at the max value of 15mm as the s...

Re: Little rubber thing

I'll have to go and try unlatching it without the rubber thingy. I wouldn't mind betting quite a bit of dosh that the thingy is Yamaha's inexpensive answer to a problem discovered by a customer ! Mind you there is so little room under there that I doubt many riders would keep much of value except of...

Little rubber thing

Why have Yamaha fitted a strange rubber bung and a rubber covered spring clip under the rear seat that must be removed before operating the catch to remove the front seat. (2017 model) I assume it is some sort of additional security. My finger has to do contortions to flick it out. Irritating as hel...

Re: Optimate

The cigarette lighter socket fitted as standard will be wired through the ignition circuit and is not live without the ignition switched on. That was the case with my last Yamaha as well (Super Tenere). It must be wired directly across the battery with a fuse. Arrange it so you have a flying lead th...

Re: Vibration

Hello, I have to say that I was a little surprised at how much engine induced vibration there appears to be as well. More than I would expect on a triple with balance shafts (I assume !) I guess I will get used to it. Not had to resort to bits of rubber yet though.

Re: Scottoiler v system

Believe me, you can install the suction pipe without taking anything off, not tank or plastic. You do need some long thin nosed pliers though and a very good lamp. The little blanking plug held on with a clip wire to the inlet tract can be removed and the angled vacuum connection fitted in about 5 m...

Hello Forum

Hello from Northumberland. (Yes another one). Had my Tracer MT 09 for a few months now. Generally pretty pleased. Economy and performance more than adequate. I'm more used to a much lower reving engine (Super Tenere 1200 last bike) but getting used to it. Like others on this forum I will have to get...
